Welcome to the Bio Economy, Circular Economy and Sustainable Development Laboratory!

The goal of the Laboratory is to constitute a cutting-edge research and education agency in order to promote UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) placing particular emphasis in the emerging field of bioeconomy and circular economy as major pylons of the ecosystem. The 17 SDGs constitute a hallmark of the historic agreement that took place in September 2015 in New York, where more than 150 leaders participated in an effort to address global challenges. Within these challenges, a bioeconomy and circular economy agenda has been initiated by prominent corporations and is being actively endorsed by EU, OECD and G7 member states as a crucial tool for sustainable development. Bioeconomy and Circular Economy offers great opportunities and solutions to a growing number of major societal, environmental and economic challenges, including climate change mitigation, energy and food security and resource efficiency.

At the Laboratory, we develop concurrent multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches to research and education. To this end, the Laboratory is recruited with a broad range of academic disciplines with its main axes on economics, biology and chemical engineering. Pooling together multidisciplinary knowledge, resources, skills and capabilities, our mission is to inspire, inceltivize, coordinate and promote world-class research and education to promote the 17 SDGs. At the same time, we aim at encouraging and providing support for a new business model for firms as well a new national policy for Greece that sets sustainability at the core of its growth model, in accordance with the current EU objectives.

In parallel, the Laboratory aims at promoting brainstorming and collaborations among academic community, private enterprises and public agencies
towards the goals of the UN’s Agenda 2030 for sustainable development, emphasizing respect for our ecosystem highlighting the role of bioeconomy towards this direction.

Our aspiration is to contribute substantially to the transformation of entrepreneurship as well as promote socio-economic development and well-being at regional, national and international level.
